Imagine that you have access to an iPad lab, Senteo clickers, Promethean Clickers, mobile lab, or another student response system everyday. Students would have the device in their hands as you teach, instruct, lecture, etc.
- How would this impact your teaching?
- How would this impact student learning?
- What device would you use to assess and engage students? Why?
- How comfortable would you feel teaching in a classroom using one to one technology as a way to assess student learning?
- ( Examples: Clickers, iPad, twitter, polleverywhere, Weebly, quizlet, Socrative / NearPod, Google Docs Survey with Flubaroo, Grade Cam, eClicker, arcademicskillbuilders.com, NEO2, twitter, wordle, iMovie, prezi, checklist, exit slip, GPS, Comic Life, etc.)
After this class, I think my favorite tools for giving prompt feedback is the iPad. There are so many tools available that have a minimal cost for the teacher and no cost for students. I would like to see/help a few teachers use eClicker, Socrative, or NearPod. My favorite idea (not a tech tool) for collecting feedback is exit tickets. Asking students to share one last thought, question, or statement about what they learned in class that day. This can be done using an iPad, twitter, or slips of paper that get handed to the teacher. This kind of feedback is beneficial because it is feedback from the student to the teacher, something we often neglect.
Teaching in a one to one environment would take some adjustments and some advanced planning. I think it requires a shift in thinking for teachers and students. This was a great discussion post for me this week. It really got me thinking about and questioning my current ideas and practices as a teacher.
