Flipped LearningWhat is Flipped Learning?Flipped Learning is a pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, and the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter. Flipped Classroom - Created with Haiku Deck, presentation software that inspires A flipped classroom is where the teacher uses technology (typically video) to deliver the "lecture" portion of the lesson. The students are assigned to watch the lecture video as their homework, which frees the teacher and students to work on projects, problems, do group work, and other learning opportunities during regular class time.
By flipping your classroom, teachers are able to spend more time working with students and addressing their individual needs, while students are able to get additional help or review class lectures when they need. An overview of the idea is presented in the videos below.

I'm a big fan of flipped or blended learning classrooms. To get started you need a web camera or document camera and/or some screen recording software. For screen recording or "screencasting" I currently use Camtasia Studio and it is great, but a little expensive. I have used Screenium in the past and it works very well, too. You can also record PowerPoint or Keynote presentations, though only Keynote will allow you to export the movie to be used on a website or elsewhere. You can also find some great free and online tools for screen recording. The best I have seen is Screencast-O-Matic, and here are more ideas to get you started.

Canvas A good flipped classroom needs a good LMS. Canvas is a great LMS, it is free for teachers, and your district may already be using it.
